Going beyond standard traditional approaches on branding, this fascinating book is the first to combine branding, identity, and image and to show how aesthetics can be managed through logos, brochures, packages, and advertisements, as well as sounds, scents, and lighting, to sell "the memorable experiences." The authors explore what makes a corporate of brand identity irresistible, what styles and themes are crucial for different contexts, and what meanings certain visual symbols convey. This is the subject of Christian Salmon's Storytelling, which looks at how the creative imagination has been hijacked in the twenty-first century." "Salmon anatomizes the timeless human desire for narrative form and how it is abused in the marketing mechanisms behind politicians and products: luxury brands trade on their embellished histories, managers tell stories to motivate employees, soldiers in Iraq train on computer games conceived in Hollywood, and spin doctors construct political lives as if they were a folk epic." "Salmon unveils the workings of a "storytelling machine" more effective and insidious as a means of oppression than anything dreamed up by Orwell. The "reality-based community" - to use a phrase coined by an aide to George W. This has brought up the question on how to design effective learning games to be continuously readdressed, often to emphasize some particular aspect as key to designing effective, game-based learning. Despite famous game-designer Costikyan's characterization of game-design as an art, rather than an engineering discipline, such studies all seem to look for a recipe for unraveling how to design effective learning games. A1 Deleuze, Gilles A1 Guattari, Félix A4 Tomlinson, H. A4 Burchill, G. AB Called by many France's leading intellectual, Gilles Deleuze is one of the most important philosophers in the Western world. His acclaimed works and celebrated collaborations with Felix Guattari have established him as a seminal figure in the fields of philosophy, cultural studies, and literary theory. The publication of What Is Philosophy? marks the culmination of Deleuze's career. Deleuze and Guattari situate philosophy in the realm of problems and possibilities. The book presents a revolutionary theory of philosophy and in the process develops a new understanding of the interrelationships among philosophy, science, and the arts. The authors differentiate philosophy from science and the arts, seeing each domain as a means of confronting chaos, and challenging the common view that philosophy is an extension of logic. They discuss the similarities and distinctions between creative and philosophical writing. Fresh anecdotes from the history of philosophy illuminate the book, along with engaging discussions of composers, painters, writers, and architects. A milestone in Deleuze's collaboration with Guattari, What Is Philosophy? brings new perspectives to Deleuze's studies of cinema, literature, painting, and music, while setting a brilliant capstone upon his intellectual corpus. Newcomers to the two thinkers' writings will relish the book's scope, energy, and inventiveness; veteran followers will appreciate Deleuze and Guattari's fierce determination to grasp the elusive meaning of philosophy in this, their last and most remarkable joint effort. These tasks have gained new impetus from the extraordinary rise of the digital. This book brings together several key anthropologists working with digital culture to demonstrate just how productive an anthropological approach to the digital has already become. Through a range of case studies from Facebook to Second Life to Google Earth, Digital Anthropology explores how human and digital can be defined in relation to one another, from avatars and disability; cultural differences in how we use social networking sites or practise religion; the practical consequences of the digital for politics, museums, design, space and development to new online world and gaming communities. The book also explores the moral universe of the digital, from new anxieties to open-source ideals. Digital Anthropology reveals how only the intense scrutiny of ethnography can overturn assumptions about the impact of digital culture and reveal its profound consequences for everyday life. Combining the clarity of a textbook with an engaging style which conveys a passion for these new frontiers of enquiry, this book is essential reading for students and scholars of anthropology, media studies, communication studies, cultural studies and sociology."--Publisher's website CN P96.A56 D54 2012 PP London ; New York FD 2012 YR 2012 ED English ed SP 3-38 PB Berg SN 978-0-85785-291-5 978-0-85785-290-8 NO

If you are a climate change denier, you can expect to see only links to news articles that debunk global warming. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, companies are tracking your every click and gathering your personal information. Welcome to the world of internet personalization. Say hello to advertising bombardments and angry, isolated opinions. Say goodbye to objective news, the free exchange of ideas, and unexpected encounters that spark creativity. The reflexive analysis of values and power gives new meaning to the impact of research on policy and practice. Real Social Science is a major step forward in a novel and thriving field of research. Since the beginning of modernity, media have transformed the scale on which we act as social beings. And now in the era of digital media, media themselves are being transformed as platforms, content, and producers multiply. - Yet the implications of social theory for understanding media and of media for rethinking social theory have been neglected; never before has it been more important to understand those implications. This book takes on this challenge. - Drawing on Couldry's fifteen years of work on media and social theory, this book explores how questions of power and ritual, capital and social order, and the conduct of political struggle, professional competition, and everyday life, are all transformed by today's complex combinations of traditional and 'new' media. In the concluding chapters Couldry develops a framework for global comparative research into media and for thinking collectively about the ethics and justice of our lives with media CN HM1206 .C68 2012 PP Cambridge ; Malden, MA FD 2012 YR 2012 SP 133-155 PB Polity SN 978-0-7456-3920-8 978-0-7456-3921-5 ST Media, society, world NO Introduction: digital media and social theory -- Media as practice -- Media as ritual and social form -- Media and the hidden shaping of the social -- Network society, networked politics? -- Media and the transformation of capital and authority -- Media cultures: a world unfolding -- Media ethics, media justice K1 Communication K1 Mass media K1 Social aspects K1 Sociology RT Book, Whole T1 Kultur i organisationer: funktion eller symbol A1 Schultz, Majken AB Er organisationskultur en manipulerbar variabel, som organisationen har?
