Open Lecture by Christoph Wulf: “Images of the human being. Imaginary and Performative Basics of Culture”

Wulf will be speaking of how people create images of themselves in all cultures and historical periods, and how people use th ese images for communication and internal understanding. At this open lecture, Wulf will be dealing with the following issues:

  • Images of the human being: The visualisation of the invisible
  • The image of a sustainable human being
  • Development and power of images of the human being
  • The world becomes an image
  • Image and imagination
  • Imagination and imaginary

Christoph Wulf is a Professor at the Freie Universität Berlin. For his research in anthropology and anthropology of education he received the "professor honoris causa” title from the University of Bucharest. His books have been translated into more than 15 languages.

ViLD Research Atelier: An open lecture series on the visual potential for knowledge generation 2017: Why do we need research into visualizations in society?

This series of open lectures addresses this question in concordance with visualizations and visual knowledge from different perspectives. We have invited international top researchers to share their expertise, addressing the overall question of the potential of visuals for knowledge generation and the functions of visualizations in society.
