Game Scope research conference 2016

Gamification potential in digital or analogue spaces.

Tidspunkt

25.08.2016 kl. 00.00 - 28.08.2016 kl. 23.59

Beskrivelse

This first Game Scope research conference will be held at Aalborg University, Denmark on 26 August 2016. It is coordinated with the rest of the first Game Scope festival on; featuring Game City Aalborg. Other partners are Center for Applied Game Research and Center for Interactive Digital Media and Experience Design, both Aalborg University.

The conference will bring together researchers with special interests in gamification and will enable delegates to:

  • Present and discuss gamification with other researchers.
  • Listen to Game Scope keynote speakers – three are planned at the research conference day.
  • Visit game business booths at the festival.
  • Participate in the Game SCOPE Award Show – same night as the research conference.

Gamification can be defined as the concept of applying game mechanics and game design techniques to engage and motivate people to achieve their goals; however it could be argued that e.g. gamification in marketing is about setting up goals for people to achieve. And further: What is then the difference between gamification and a game? These theoretical problems can be seen as the reason for a simple functional definition in which gamification means applying game elements to non-game areas.

Conclusive a definition of gamification is often aligned with the research area of interest. Instead of following this path the conference will seek to frame the potential of gamification; which areas of interest are relevant for gamification in digital or analogue spaces? Therefore the call favors research which includes an applied dimension, where the use of gamification contributes to new knowledge.

The research contributions will be peer reviewed and if accepted published in an anthology following the conference (Published by Aalborg University). The purpose of the anthology is to present peer reviewed papers which address state of the art research within the potential of gamification in digital or analogue spaces.
